Shilling
Situated in the former home of Rumpoli’s on the Quayside, Shilling is all about ‘nose to tail’ dining. Think inventive dishes utilising the whole animal and thus minimising food waste. These guys used to work behind the bar at Popolo’s (before it moved and became Bierrex), so they know a thing or two about a cocktail too.

Barrio Comida
This taco shack on the Quayside is taking Newcastle by storm. With Californian head chef Shaun Hurrell at the helm and support from Riley’s Fish Shack in Tynemouth it’s sure to be a success. We’ve tried Barrio Comida at the Boilershop Steamer before and we’re excited to check out their Mexican food with a twist again very soon.

Dobson and Parnell
Named after the infamous Victorian architects who shaped Newcastle and housed in the former home of Terry Labourne’s Cafe 21, this place has some great credentials. Add to this the fact it’s owned by the same people as Blackfriars and that the Michelin guide is already praising them, it’s going to be a sure-fire hit. The focus is on fresh, seasonal food and ingredient pairing without the need for over seasoning.

Central Oven & Shaker
Across the road from Central Station, some of you may remember the building when it was Lizard Lounge. It’s had a bit of a makeover since then – to the tune of £1 million to be exact. It’s owned by the group behind some of Newcastle’s most popular eateries like Pleased to Meet You and Hop & Cleaver. Head chef Andrea Muru promises authentic Neopolitan style pizza, cooked in a wood fired pizza oven sourced from Naples. They’re open early till late and have a great cocktail menu on offer too.

Jolly Fisherman on the Quay
After making a name for themselves in the picturesque fishing village of Craster, The Jolly on the Quay brings great fish to the Quayside. We can vouch for their knowledge of fish as we’ve been to their original restaurant so if you want a taste of the coast in the city centre give them a try.
